Steps in Make Up Application
Step 1: Cleanse your face and moisturize
Before you apply makeup, you need to start the application on a clean face. Therefore, it is important to wash your face before the makeup application with a gentle cleanser. If it isn’t the time or the place, you can gently use a toner of your choice to wipe away any impurities on your face.
After washing, you can then apply a light moisturizer to your face. The moisturizer keeps the skin from becoming too oily as the day progresses. It also moisturizers any of the dry patches on your face.
Step 2: Work your foundation
You need to wait a few minutes after applying moisturizer so that it can sink in. Using your fingers, dab a light foundation of your choice or if you would like, a tinted moisturizer, to your nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. Work the spots outwards as you blend in the foundation.
For this step, you can either use a foundation brush, makeup sponge or fingers.
Step 4: Conceal the dark circles under the eyes
To hide the dark circles under your eye, you will need to use a concealer. You should always go for a shade that is closest to your skin color or slightly lighter than your natural tone. Apply a spec of the concealer to the darkest parts of the circles using a pointed brush.
Blend it into your skin, with a brush or using your fingers. Use a translucent powder to set the moisturizer and concealer, using a pressing motion. If there is any excess, use a powder brush to flick it off, using a circular motion.
Step 5: Eyeshadow application
The application of eyeshadow to your eyelids requires precision and finesse. You can use your fingers or a shadow brush that’s round, to make short but quick swipes, working your way up from the lash line to the brow bone. Use a thin and translucent powder to set the eyeshadow.
If there is any excess powder on the brush, you can tap it lightly, in the case of the eyeshadow, to remove it. For beginners, it is advisable to start with a neutral shade of eyeshadow, e.g. taupe before trying out bold colors as you perfect your skills.
Step 6: Look down into a mirror and apply eyeliner
You will need to use both hands when using eyeliner. Hold the upper lid of one eye with one hand, and use the other to make short strokes along the rim of your lash line. You can start with a brown or black pencil before experimenting with other shades.
Apply one coating of mascara on both lashes using the tip of the wand in the direction of the outer corner of the eye.
Step 7: Add color to your lips and cheeks
For chapped lips, you will need to prep then using a warm, but damp washcloth. Apply a layer of lip balm to the lips and let it absorb before putting on your favorite lipstick. Pucker the lips and dap a small amount of lip gloss or lipstick, straight from the tube.
Blend and add color using the tips of your fingers as you work them outwards. To add blush to your cheeks, smile into the mirror and dab the blush on your apples. Blend it as you move upwards towards your temples.
To become a pro in makeup application, you will have to practice. With time you will be perfect in the art and be able to play around with different color and still be glamorous in how you look. You can find numerous YouTube Tutorials to get you started.
